Dried Apples
Ingredients
- 8 apples (can be any type of apple depending on flavor preferences)
- 1 cup lemon juice
- Cinnamon
Directions
Dried apples are the perfect snack. A bit chewy and filled with concentrated apple flavors, they are healthy and delicious. You can use any of the hundreds of apple varieties grown around the US and change the flavor profile accordingly.
- Using a food processor, mandolin or knife, slice apples 1/8 to 1/4-inch thick. Remove seeds.
- In a medium bowl, add lemon juice. To prevent browning, dip apple slices in lemon juice. Drain well.
- Place apple slices in a single layer on dehydrator trays. Sprinkle with cinnamon, if desired.
- Set dehydrator at 135° F. and time for 4 to 9 hours.
- Dehydrate until apples are dry but pliable.
Test Kitchen Tip: When done, dehydrated apples should feel dry and leathery without being sticky. Test by tearing a slice in half. The apples should look like a dry, dense sponge.
