Apple Horseradish Jam
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon fresh horseradish root
- 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
- 4 apples
- 1 ½ cups brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon toasted fennel seeds
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
Directions
Adding horseradish, cloves & fennel seeds to this sweet apple jam gives it a savory element while also adding a little zip. It's the perfect addition to the cheese board at your next gathering.
- Use your Grater or Shredder to grate the fresh horseradish root until you have a tablespoon of shredded horseradish. Pour apple cider vinegar over the horseradish. Set aside.
- Peel, core & slice the apples with your Apple Peeler. Place the slices into a sauce pan with ¼ cup water.
- Bring to a boil, then simmer until apples are soft - about 10 minutes.
- Alternately, you can skip the Apple Peeler, quarter the apples, and simmer them until soft - the Tomato Press with remove the skin and seeds for you. The simmering process will just take much longer when you skip the Apple Peeler.
- Place the softened apples into your Tomato Press and turn the handle to make applesauce.
- Place the apple sauce into a small pot with the remaining ingredients (including the horseradish). Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Simmer for 20-30 minutes, or until you have a thick jam.
- Enjoy immediately with smoked gouda or goat cheese, or use a Canning Kit to properly seal the jar and store for the long term.
